Description

The Medusa Nebuila is a planetary nebula in the constellation of Gemini, with catalogue number Sharpless 2-274 or Abell 21.

Originally, it was thought to be a SNR but later identified as a planetary nebula with a hot "pre-degenerate" central star. PG stars represent a transition state between the parent orginal star and white dwarfs. Its surface temperature is very high, therefore, it can be observed as a tiny blue spot in the middle of the PN.

At the right bottom corner of the image (west) the open star cluster NGC 2395 can be seen.
